New XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors in Sony FE 400mm f / 2.8 GM OSS Lens improve motion tracking up to 5 times for current and future camera bodies with higher thrust than conventional types. Two of these new motors and newly developed algorithms operate the lens' wide focus lens group silently, faster and more precisely than before.
The full speed performance of advanced camera bodies can be used for dynamic sports or wildlife shots.
Stunning G Master resolution and bokeh
With extremely high design standards, high resolution is achieved right down to the edges of the image.
Color turbidity is minimized with three fluorite parts. Spherical aberration is carefully controlled during design and production for the best possible bokeh quality.
Optional high-performance 1.4x and 2.0x tele-converters are supported, providing excellent resolution and contrast even at 800mm
Extremely light at just 2895 grams (102.2 ounces)
With an innovative optical design with three fluorite parts, the front parts of the lens cylinder are reduced to a weight of only 2,895 grams (102.2 ounces).
Durable magnesium alloy components also reduce weight. In addition to exceptional portability and ease of use, an ideal balance provides comfortable use in handheld and monopod shooting.

Full-time DMF allows manual focus by simply rotating the focus ring, even when shooting in AF-C mode.
Built-in optical image stabilization is available, the new Mode 34 setting makes framing easier and features an advanced algorithm that offers optimum stabilization for dynamic sporting events.
Four focus hold buttons and a focus ring with Linear Response MF add to the versatility.
